Open Enrollment

Students who reside outside of our district boundaries are able to open enroll at Clear Lake Schools.

Students only need to be open enrolled one time unless they move to a different resident district than the district they initially open enrolled from. 

Enrolling a student with us is done online and quickly and easily! To open enroll a student in Clear Lake Schools:​​​​​​

Step 1: Complete the Open Enrollment Forms

1. A parent/guardian must complete an open enrollment application for the receiving district.
2. A parent/guardian must complete an open enrollment application for the resident district.
3. Turn one of the forms into the Clear Lake School District Administration Office.
4. Turn one of the forms into the resident district's administration office.
5. Each district's administration and school board must sign the open enrollment before it becomes official.

Step 2: Register Online

1. Go to the enroll page and choose the New or Returning Student option to register your student. 

Applications to Approved Online Schools
The deadline does not apply to parents/guardians applying for their student to attend a public school district with an approved online school by the Iowa Department of Education.

September 1
Application deadline for incoming preschool students who receive special education services requiring specially designed instruction (SDI) to open enroll for the current school year.

September 1
Application deadline for incoming kindergarten students to open enroll for the current school year.

September 2
Applications for incoming preschool students requiring SDI and kindergarten students will be denied unless the parent or guardian is able to demonstrate “good cause.”

March 1 
Application deadline for students in grades 1-12 to open enroll for the upcoming school year.

March 2
Applications for students grades 1-12 will be denied unless the parent or guardian is able to demonstrate good cause.
