Clear Lake High School Dance Team Members, Sarah Petersen (freshman), Mia DeVries (sophomore), Bella Clabaugh (junior) and Emily LeFevre (junior) competed in the Iowa State Dance Team Association’s State Solo Competition on Saturday, November 2nd in Newton Iowa. They competed in Class V- a field of 65 dancers.

Sarah performed a contemporary solo to “Wild Horses, choreographed by McKenna Wilkinson. She placed in the top 20. Sarah is the daughter of Dena & Bryce Peterson.

Mia performed a lyrical solo to “I Don’t Think About You”, Choreography by Amy VanWagen. She placed in the top 20. Mia is the daughter of Cori & Abram Frien

Bella performed at self- choreographed contemporary to “Moved”. She placed 3rd place. “Bella is very strong in contemporary- this was her strongest solo performance to date- and I was so happy to see her place 3rd in a category full of tough competitors. Bella is the daughter of Amy and Casey Clabaugh.

Emily performed at jazz solo to “Let Me Think About It”, choreography by Katie Stoltman. Emily earned Clear Lake’s first State Solo Dance Championship her freshman year and repeated her sophomore year. She felt a lot of pressure and expectations leading up to defending her titles. This year the State Association moved from 8 classes of dance to 10, and also revamped the scoresheet. She was the only solo winner from the 8 classes to earn a championship for 2018 and repeat for 2019 and then again for the 10 classes in 2020. Emily is the daughter of Jay and Liz LeFevre. Emily’s high energy, entertaining and difficult jazz routines are a favorite not just of the judges, but also crowd favorite.
