The J.V. Lions got off to a rough start in their first game of the season with the Charles City Comets but came roaring back, no pun intended, for an exciting 35-27 victory on Thursday night at Lions Field. Charles City to their first play from scrimmage 70 yards for touchdown and the PAT was good, 7-0 Comets. Charles City would score on a 4th down in second quarter to make it 14-0. Clear Lake got the offense rolling and Cody Maulsby scored from 7 yards out to make the half time score 14-6 Comets. The Lions marched the whole 3rd quarter using up most of the clock and tied it up on Brice Wilcke’s 3 yard touchdown run and Gavin Sheakley’s 2 point conversion. The Comets hit another long touchdown run to go up 21-14. Aaron Boeshart then took the ensuing kick off the distance 80 yards and Sheakley hit Maulsby on the 2 pt. conversion and the Lions had the lead 22-21. The Lions got another Wilcke score and Brandon Lo’s PAT was good. 29-21 Lions. Charles City would hit pay dirt again on a big run and missed the 2 point to tie, 29-27 Lions. Zach Huey would finish off the Lion scoring with an electric 52 yard touchdown run to make the final score 35-27 Lions. Huey Led the Lions with 17 carries for 119 yards and a touchdown. Brice Wilcke had 2 scores and 37 yards on the ground. Coach Feuerbach and Puttman hope to make some defensive adjustments to stop the big runs. They will head to Forest City next week for a 6 p.m. game on Sept. 2nd for a game with the J.V. Indians.
