On Monday night September 26 the Lion J.V. football team lost to Humboldt 14-7. Humboldt controlled the ball on offense most of the night. The Wildcats took the opening drive of the game down for a touchdown and used up most of the first quarter clock. The Lions had a good second quarter drive set up by Alex Gonzalez 44 yard run. But the Wildcats would turn back the the Lion threat with an interception on their own one yard line and it was 7-0 Humboldt at the half. In the third quarter the Lions had another good drive that would end on the Humboldt 1 yard line as the Lions were stopped and turned it over on downs. Humboldt would score in the 4th quarter on a long run and back came the Lions. Chase Lester hit Zach Merfeld on a big 32 yard pass play to set up Carter Hand’s 1 yard plunge for the touchdown. Logan Kracht’s PAT was good and the Lions still had a shot, behind 14-7. The Lion defense could not get the Wilcats stopped and ran out of time, losing 14-7. Treslyn Allison led the defense with 10 tackles from his linebacker position and Christian Paulsen had 6 and Blake Kelso had 5 tackles. On offense Alex Gonzalez had 75 yards on 7 carries. Carter Hand had 4 carries for 24 yards and the lone Lion touchdown. The next JV game will be at home versus Ballard of Huxley on Monday, October 3rd. Game time is at 5:30.

JV Lions Defeat Forest City
On Thursday night Sept 1st the J.V. Lions defeated Forest City 16-0. The Lion defense showed up big time and offense got enough points to get the victory. The first quarter would be scoreless and in the 2nd the Lions scored first on an 8 yard touchdown run by Connor Nosbisch. Logan Kracht’s pat was good and the Lions would lead 7-0 at the half. In the 3rd quarter Treslyn Allison made a great play from his linebacker position to get a safety for the Lions and they were up 9-0. Nosbisch would score again in the 4th and the pat was good for the final of 16-0 in favor of the Lions. Nosbisch carried 9 times for 36 yards and two touchdowns. Jack Abbas threw for 109 yards to add to the offense. Defensively Steven Akers had five tackles and three sacks. John Glynn added two sacks and Treslyn Allison had 7 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. The J.V. Lions next game is Monday night September 12th against Nevada at 5:30 at Lions field.
Varsity Reserve topples Charles City
On Monday night August 27 the Varsity Reserve Lion Football team defeated Charles City 27-6 at Charles City. Jack Abbas and Alex Webb got the scoring going for the Lions as they connected on a 35 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and the Lions were up 7-0 after the pat by Logan Kracht. The Comets would score a quick one as the Lions fumbled on their own 20 yard line a little later and the pat was no good making it 7-6 Lions. Blake Kelso would score on 1 yard plunge set up by a beautiful punt block by Brian Larsen and it would be 14-6 at the half. In the second half the Lions kept the scoring going with a 42 yard run from Aaron Boeshart and a nice 5 yard run from Alex Gonzalez to finish the scoring out at 27-6. On defense the Lions were led by Carson Farmer who had 11 tackles and an interception. Zach Bredlow added 10 tackles. Steven Akers had a strong game with six tackles and Christian Paulsen added six. The next varsity reserve game will be Monday night September 19th at home versus Mason City.
