Lion Freshman Top Forest City

The Clear Lake Freshman topped Forest City 34-8 Friday evening.  The Lions offense started slow but got things rolling in the second quarter.  Coach Mike Lester gave a lot of credit to the offensive line.  He said, “Forest City had a defense that we were not used to.  With some minor adjustments we were able to get back on track.” Clear Lake scored early in the second quarter on a 3 yard run by Jack Abbas.  Abbas would also run in the two point conversion to make the score 8-0.  Two minutes later Forest City scored and converted the two point conversion making the score 8-8.  At the 2:09 mark of the second Alex Gonzalez ran into the endzone from 4 yards out and the two point conversion failed making the score 14-6.  With Forest City threating to score late in the first half, Abbas picked off a pass at the Clear Lake 17 yard line and returned it 34 yards.  This set up another score.  The Lions had a trick up their sleeve with 5 seconds remaining in the half and the ball at the Forest City 31 yard line.  Abbas would toss a touchdown pass to wide open receiver Conner Nosbisch after a throw back pass to Abbas from Chase Lester.  Two point conversion failed and Clear Lake went to halftime leading 20-6.  Gonzalez would find the endzone again in the third quarter on a 6 yard run and two point conversion failed making the score 26-8. Early in the fourth quarter Pete Swenson picked off another Forest City pass.  The offense would capitalize on the turnover.  With 6:13 remaining in the game Lester threw a 35 yard touchdown pass to Alex Webb.  Abbas ran in the 2 point conversion making the final score of 34-8.  Coach Lester said, “The defense was able to contain Forest City’s spread offense. One play on several missed tackles allowed Forest City to get into our red zone and score.  Besides that play we kept them to minimal yardage.”  Leading the defense was Pete Swenson with 5 solo tackles and 3 assist and 1 interception.  Blake Kelso had 4 solo tackles and 4 assist and 1 sack.  Leading the way on offense was Alex Gonzalez with 100 yards rushing and 2 rushing touchdowns.  Chase Lester had 63 yards rushing and was 5 for 7 passsing for 67 yards and one passing touchdown.  Carter Hand had 4 catches for 32 yards. Jack Abbas had one rushing and one passing touchdown.  He ran in twice to convert two point conversions and had one interception on defense.  The Lions now 2-0 play at home Friday at 4:45 against Nevada.
